COVID-19 Infos

As the summer semester will be largely digital, there will of course be some changes in our student council work and in the way the study programme is run.

Here you can find a lot of information about the summer semester with COVID-19.

Consultation (Beratung)

As usual we are reachable by mail for your questions.

You can reach us via our contact form on our homepage [1]. There you can choose certain categories and your message will be sent directly to the responsible person.

If you would like to be advised by phone, please write us an email in which you add your phone number. We will call you back as soon as possible. We are currently not available on the student council telephone, as we too are as little as possible in the student council.

Practice Exams (Altklausuren)

All practive exams can be ordered from now on using this form:

We do not mail practice exams because the collections are too large to simply send them by mail.

You can always select the desired practice exams until 6 pm the day before by using our exam form, order them in advance and then pick them up at the collection times with your name/pseudonym in the foyer of the Maschinenbauhochhaus (Geb. 10.23). This should be done in the next pick-up time.

The payment will be done via a donation box, so please bring the cash counted with you if possible. For reasons of hygiene we do not have change on site. The costs of the practice exams are listed in the form and the confirmation mail.

Please pay attention to the valid distance and hygiene regulations when picking up the exams and keep your stay on campus as short as possible!
On site we have taken hygienic measures to make the pickup as fast and safe as possible.
Masks are compulsory! Those who do not wear a mask will not get their practice exams!

Oral Examination Protocols (Mündliche Prüfungsprotokolle)

Additionally we offer to send you protocols by mail. For copyright reasons we are not allowed to send protocols digitally. The costs for this we take over. We would be even more pleased if you would write a protocol of your examination so that we can update and expand our collection.

Please fill out the form so that we can send you the protocols within the next few days:

You can find our available protocols here:

Currently we send out transcripts of oral exams by mail to minimize activities on campus.
If you still prefer to pick up the transcripts together with the practice exams, please check the appropriate box on the form.

Consultation Hours in Discord (Sprechstunde)

We continue offering consultation hours, but they are held through Discord: Therefore we have implementet a Server, which can be found here.

You don't need a Discord account, just access the Server through the Browser of your choice. You can give youself a name and ignore the question if you want to register for an account by clicking next to it.

To ask your question, just join the voice chat "Sprechstunde". If there is currently no member of our coincil, just write your question in the according text channel "#sprechstunde" and wait until a member moves you to a private voice chat. This shouldn't take long during consultation hours. If you want your issue to be handled privately, just ask for personal consultation. :)

Meeting (Sitzung)

If you are interested in coming to one of our meetings, you are always welcome. Our session will also take place online on Discord. You will always find the access link in the meeting announcement.

Our sessions take place as usual on Wednesdays at 19:00. So if you are interested in what we are doing, come and see/listen to it.

You can find the protocolls on ILIAS.

Summer Semester 2020

Lecture Status (Vorlesungsstatus)

Nearly all lectures take place. However, the respective professor decides in which form this happens. So that you don't lose track of who teaches what and how, there are clear lists that summarize all this (available only in German):

Semester Preparation (Semestervorbereitung)

Join ILIAS folders:
Every event has an ILIAS folder. You should definitely join this folder to get all the information. If the folder needs a password, you should ask your fellow students for it. If they do not have one, you can ask the professor for it by mail.

Set up Microsoft Teams:
Many tutorials, seminars, etc. will be held this semester on Microsoft Teams. In order to use this service, you must first agree to the MS Teams privacy policy. You can do this here [1]. For more information on how to use teams, click here [2]. You can use teams under [3]. There you can also download the handy desktop client for teams. Check your audio and video settings before your first lecture. Please dial into the event in time to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Set up zoom:
Since many lectures, especially larger ones, are held using zoom, you should also set up this software on your computer. Here [4] you can download Zoom. As with teams, it is recommended that you check your audio and video settings before using the software for the first time and that you dial into the lectures in time to avoid technical problems.

Set up VPN (optional):
Some textbooks can be downloaded as pdf from the library's internet portal. To do this you need a VPN connection to the KIT network. How to set it up, you can find out here [5]. Once you have established a connection to the KIT network, you can search for your favorite textbook in the Bib Portal [6]. You can limit your search to electronic books by using the search box on the left side of the results. To download the book, click on the title of the book and then on "Get It". You will be redirected to a publisher's website where you can download the book as a pdf.

Recommendations of the Examination Boards / KIT (Handreichung der Prüfungsausschüsse / KIT)

In the meantime, the Examination Boards of the faculties have drawn up recommendations on how to deal with deadline violations, final papers and oral examinations in the face of the Corona crisis. You can find them here:

KIT-Faculty Mechanical Engineering (especially für MACH, MatWerk, MEI, MIT) [1]
KIT-Faculty Chemical Engineering and Process Engineering [2]

The current and latest information from KIT can be found on the FAQ page for Corona [3].

Master Information Event (Master Infoveranstaltung)

Since the Master's information events specific to the course of study cannot take place on campus, we have thought of something new. Therefore we have recorded the information events on video for you.

In the ILIAS course of the student council MACH/CIW [1] you can find the commented videos of your study course. You can find the Master-Info-Slides and Master-Guidelines on our student council page in the download area. And don't forget to sign up for the Master semester mailing list. The mailing list will always provide you with the latest information from the student council and also only concerning your studies and the student council.

Do you have any further questions? After you have watched the video, you are welcome to come to our Live-Consultation with the student examination board members on our discord server. This will take place on Tuesday, 21.04.2020, at 6:00pm. You can find the link on the ILIAS course homepage.

You can find more information in the FAQs on our homepage. If you still can't find what you're looking for, you can contact the student council with all your questions using the contact form or by e-mail at fachschaftatfs-fmc [punkt] kit [punkt] edu.

Situation on campus

Here is a list with Corona news of the different facilities on campus:

Emergency relief fund and emergency grant

The state of Baden-Württemberg has an emergency fund to support students who have got into financial problems due to the current situation.

In order to get access to these loans or scholarships, an application must be sent to the Studierendenwerk. Information on changes in Bafög claims due to a changed financial situation can also be found there.

In addition, it is possible to receive a subsidy from the AStA to bridge short-term financial problems such as missing Bafög payments (further information).

Petition for the support of students and employees of KIT

The Ver.Di group at KIT has published a petition calling on KIT to mitigate financial hardship among its members. The Fachschaft MACH/CIW has decided to support this petition.

Regarding students, the petition demands the following:

  • Students should not be exmatriculated due to insolvency.
  • The semester fees are to be paid by the student in rates if necessary. Student and research assistants should lose their source of income at KIT; their contracts must be extended in accordance with the moratorium on fixed-term contracts.
  • The KIT should support the extension of current scholarships of its students by 6 months.
  • The summer semester 2020 should not be included in the counting of the upper limits of the semester, such as the regular and maximum duration of studies.
  • The KIT should support financial aid for the Studierendenwerk to enable affordable housing in times of crisis.
The petition aims to improve the situation not only for students but also for employees at and around KIT. Among other things, the petition demands an adjustment of the short-time work allowance for the employees of the cafeteria and an extension of the employment contracts of scientists employed on a fixed-term basis.

Sign the Petition here.

The petition is based on a Ver.Di statement, which you can find here.
