Winter Semester 2021/2022

Nearly all lectures take place. However, the respective professor decides in which form this happens. There will be mix of online lectures and lectures on Campus, although every lecture should be available online.

Semester Preparation (Semestervorbereitung)

Join ILIAS folders:
Every event has an ILIAS folder. You should definitely join this folder to get all the information. If the folder needs a password, you should ask your fellow students for it. If they do not have one, you can ask the professor for it by mail.

Set up Microsoft Teams:
Many tutorials, seminars, etc. will be held this semester on Microsoft Teams. In order to use this service, you must first agree to the MS Teams privacy policy. You can do this here [1]. For more information on how to use teams, click here [2]. You can use teams under [3]. There you can also download the handy desktop client for teams. Check your audio and video settings before your first lecture. Please dial into the event in time to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Set up zoom:
Since many lectures, especially larger ones, are held using zoom, you should also set up this software on your computer. Here [4] you can download Zoom. As with teams, it is recommended that you check your audio and video settings before using the software for the first time and that you dial into the lectures in time to avoid technical problems.

Set up VPN (optional):
Some textbooks can be downloaded as pdf from the library's internet portal. To do this you need a VPN connection to the KIT network. How to set it up, you can find out here [5]. Once you have established a connection to the KIT network, you can search for your favorite textbook in the Bib Portal [6]. You can limit your search to electronic books by using the search box on the left side of the results. To download the book, click on the title of the book and then on "Get It". Master Information Event (Master Infoveranstaltung)

Since the Master's information events specific to the course of study cannot take place on campus, we have thought of something new. Therefore we have recorded the information events on video for you.

In the ILIAS course of the student council MACH/CIW [1] you can find the commented videos of your study course. You can find the Master-Info-Slides and Master-Guidelines on our student council page in the download area. And don't forget to sign up for the Master semester mailing list. The mailing list will always provide you with the latest information from the student council and also only concerning your studies and the student council.

Do you have any further questions? After you have watched the video, you are welcome to come to our Live-Consultation with the student examination board members on our discord server. This will take place on Tuesday, 21.04.2020, at 6:00pm. You can find the link on the ILIAS course homepage.

You can find more information in the FAQs on our homepage. If you still can't find what you're looking for, you can contact the student council with all your questions using the contact form or by e-mail at fachschaftatfs-fmc [punkt] kit [punkt] edu (fachschaft[at]fs-fmc[dot]kit[dot]edu).

General

Situation on campus

Here is a list with Corona news of the different facilities on campus:

Emergency relief fund and emergency grant

The state of Baden-Württemberg has an emergency fund to support students who have got into financial problems due to the current situation.

In order to get access to these loans or scholarships, an application must be sent to the Studierendenwerk. Information on changes in Bafög claims due to a changed financial situation can also be found there.

In addition, it is possible to receive a subsidy from the AStA to bridge short-term financial problems such as missing Bafög payments (further information).

Petition for the support of students and employees of KIT

The Ver.Di group at KIT has published a petition calling on KIT to mitigate financial hardship among its members. The Fachschaft MACH/CIW has decided to support this petition.

Regarding students, the petition demands the following:

  • Students should not be exmatriculated due to insolvency.
  • The semester fees are to be paid by the student in rates if necessary. Student and research assistants should lose their source of income at KIT; their contracts must be extended in accordance with the moratorium on fixed-term contracts.
  • The KIT should support the extension of current scholarships of its students by 6 months.
  • The summer semester 2020 should not be included in the counting of the upper limits of the semester, such as the regular and maximum duration of studies.
  • The KIT should support financial aid for the Studierendenwerk to enable affordable housing in times of crisis.
The petition aims to improve the situation not only for students but also for employees at and around KIT. Among other things, the petition demands an adjustment of the short-time work allowance for the employees of the cafeteria and an extension of the employment contracts of scientists employed on a fixed-term basis.

Sign the Petition here.

The petition is based on a Ver.Di statement, which you can find here.
